Palestine October 2023

After a few years of enjoying a monthly winter veg shed catch ups over a dinner, hosted by kindly village residents, in honour of a vegetable, this year we have decided to enjoy a meal in honour of a county.

We started at Mo’s lovely home, celebrating the cuisine of Palestine.

I am possibly biased, thanks to family connections, but Middle Eastern flavours have a very special place in my heart – I just think they are absolutely delicious.

Chick peas, coriander, pomegranate, citrus fruits, all served on a bed of cous-cous, a hint of chilli, and tasty flatbreads.

The gastronomy of this region is laced with history and political discord of course and intense discussions ensued, all in good humour of course, with everyone's views being heard and listened to, as is the Horncliffe way. The dinner took place before the horrific events in Israel on October 7th though and things really kicked off in Palestine after our get together. It felt quite spooky.

We all have differing political and religious views and I think we all feel very fortunate to be able  to share them in a safe and supportive environment.
