Hungary

This was meant to be 'my night' - I arranged it deliberately for February 2025, thinking 'surely my kitchen will be ready by then?'

Err no, this is my dining area - nearly there with freshly laid tiles but not fully grouted and the dining table and chairs were still in our garage. So, Fiona very kindly offered to rescue me and host again -

I bought körözött a Hungarian dip with peppers as an appetiser, Tokaji, a very special Hungarian dessert wine, lecsó, a pepper stew and a green salad -

Other people bought more delicious stews and gorgeous sweets, including walnut parcels, by Mo, and an amazing cheesecake made from pasta, by Eileen.

The evening started as usual with a bit of standing around and chatting, glasses of Prosecco were handed out, but everyone soon got stuck in to the food.

The system is - first come first served!

It is quite a serious business actually, making sure you get to try everything.

A truly lovely evening was had by all, thanks to Fiona's hospitality.

My main and sweet selection could not have been more delicious. Honestly, some veg shed members are so good at cooking, but please remember, you do not have to be an expert, it is all about experimenting and simply 'having a go'.

It felt quite emotional for me to see everyone enjoying Hungarian food and wine, I am half Hungarian and it is a great place to go for a holiday. Do stop me for a chat if it is somewhere you would like to plan a visit to. I was delighted to discover that Enid, one of our newest residents, daughter has a holiday home there, in the countryside - such small world!
